Transition Class and Skydive

TRANSITION CLASS TOPICS

1. Direct Supervision is coming to an end. S1, S2, S3, S4
2. Explain and go over the SIM thoroughly.
3. BSRs
4. FARs, including 65, 91, 105, 149
5. FAA
6. USPA
7. Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission
8. Sign-offs: jumping and non-jumping
9. Safe landings, defensive skydiving, including: the difference between student canopy flying and now flying under canopy with other skydivers, Cessna vs. Otter
10. Difference in flying characteristics of various wingloading and canopy styles. Advise on "right of way."
11. No "S" turns on final, and why.
12. Still use the "X"
13. Radio use until A-License
14. Aircraft procedures and behavior, including why we wear seatbelts.
15. Gear checks: you can be taken off the load.
16. Pilot is in command, LO organizes: you must know your order
17. Spotting
18. Packing
19. Freefall time: fun and emergencies (review)
20. Solos: you still have to plan and get all the signoffs
21. Tracking
22. PLanding patterns.

TRANSITION SKYDIVE (AFF: E-3; IAD: E-4)

NOTE: AFF Students will be trained in hand deploy and use this jump as their first BOC jump.

DIVE FLOW:


ALL Students
1. Calculate the spot and jump run on the ground and assist on the exit spot at altitude
2. Exit at between 8,000 and 13,500 feet.
3. Poised stable exit (to practice for low solos)


AFF Students
4. Perform practice BOC pulls until confident after attending the hand deploy instruction session.


IAD Students

4. Perform freefall maneuvers of your choice:
• 90, 180, or 360 degree turns
• Front loops
• Back loops
• Barrel rolls
• Fall rate maneuvers
• Forward and backward movement
• Side slides
• Just fall stable and enjoy yourself


ALL Students
5. Wave off and perform a stable opening by 4,000 feet
6. On opening a good canopy, rear riser turns with your brakes stowed of at least 90 degrees right and left, looking first in the direction of the turn.
7. During descent above 1000 feet, practice braked turns, 180 degrees right and left, within 20 degrees
8. Practice collision avoidance awareness, execute your landing pattern and practice landing courtesy
9. Land within 25 meters of your declared target
10. Debrief
