Radio Instruction
Policies
Suggested charge: $5.00 per landing on drop zone.
| 1. | All skydivers on student status must wear a chest radio and it must be turned on prior to exit, unless cleared to "off-radio" status by SA&T. |
| 2. | Only trained instructional rating holders, or personnel trained and designated by the drop zone management, may conduct radio instruction. |
| 3. | All student landings must be conducted on the northerly side of the landing area and within a 20 meter circumference of the "X" marked in the field. |
| 4. | All radio instructors must conduct a prejump planning session with the student or the instructor(s) to assess the student's jump planner, awareness of alternatives landing areas, collision avoidance, and understanding of turbulence and hazards in the area. |
| 5. | All student landings must be kept away from the runway and must avoid headings in the direction of aircraft that is landing, taking off, taxing, or preparing to taxi. |
| 6. | Student landing patterns are usually right hand patterns. |
| 7. | Radio instructors should direct the student while standing in the area around the "X." |
| 8. | All radio instruction must be followed by a thorough debrief dealing with opening, category canopy TLOs, strategy from 4000 feet to 1000 feet, handling in the holding area, insertion point altitude, downwind, base, and final legs, flare and landing technique, field packing, and awareness on the ground of other canopies. |
| 9. | Radio instructors will discuss the student debrief with method-specific instructors as appropriate. |
| 10. | Radio instructors will ensure that radios and transceivers are returned to proper locations in good condition promptly after each landing they supervise. |
