Accelerated Freefall
Program Category C Students are encouraged to conduct a session in the wind tunnel with concentrations on turn stops and starts, solo deployment, and fall rate changes (up and down) prior to making the first jump in this category. UNASSISTED FREEFALL, HEADING AWARENESS, and HOVER CONTROL Exit and Freefall: Solo, controlled, relaxed fall; heading awareness; wave-off Canopy: Solo pattern and flare; wing loading; turbulence; downwind landings Equipment: Complete orientation (main closed); observe pre-flight gear checks Emergency review: Open parachute in aircraft; off-airport landings; obstacle recognition and avoidance; turbulence; collapsing the canopy on landing Rules & Recs: SIM 2-1 (Student equipment): FAR 105.43.b.1 (equipment); local laws; canopy owner’s manual Spotting & Aircraft: Pattern selection Written/Oral quiz Skydive #3 DIVE FLOW (Jump C-1): 1. Exit with two instructors 2. COA, check left, announce altitude, wait for corrective signals or OK. Check right, announce altitude, wait for corrective hand signals or OK. 3. Perform one practice ripcord touch (PRCT), maintaining a good, stable body position, check altitude 4. Perform two toe taps, maintaining a good, stable body position 5. Short COAs 6. Instructors release, maintain stable body position, leg awareness, and heading 7. Maintain heading, check altitude 8. Initiate deployment procedures without prompting and pull by 4,000 feet 9. Canopy check, look for traffic around you and executed your planned landing pattern 10. Debrief Skydive #4 DIVE FLOW (Jump C-2): 1. Exit with one instructor 2. COA, check right, announce altitude, wait for corrective hand signals or OK. 3. Perform one practice ripcord touch (PRCT), maintaining a good, stable body position, check altitude 4. Perform two toe taps, maintaining a good, stable body position 5. Short COAs 6. Instructor releases, and moves to front dock. Maintain stable body position, leg awareness, and heading, check altitude 7. Lock on at 6,000 feet and initiate deployment procedures without prompting by 5,000 feet 8. Canopy check, look for traffic around you and executed your planned landing pattern 9. Debrief |
