BOARD OF SELECTMEN
Minutes
May 7, 1997

Board met in Regular Session 7.30 p.m. in their Meeting Room in Abbot Hall

Present (constituting a quorum):

MINUTES. Motion made and seconded to approve the minutes ofthe April 30, 1997 meeting All in favor.

GIFT. Chairman McNulty read a letter from the attorney for the estate of the late Leonard Graves Humphrey, Jr. Mr. Humphrey has bequeathed $5,000 to the Town of Marblehead to be used as the governing body of the Town may determine.

PROCLAMATION. Letter read from Karin Martin requesting the Board of Selectmen declare the month of May as Older Americans' Month in the Town of Marblehead. Motion made and seconded for approval. All in favor.

POLICE DEPARTMENT. Letter has been received from the Police Chief requesting the Board call for a list to fill two positions: one Captain and one Sergeant. Motion made and seconded to authorize the Chairman to sign the requisition calling for the existing departmelltal promotion eligible list for Captain and Sergeant. All in favor. Motion made and seconded to appoint Selectman Conly and Selectman Cutting a committee of two to meet with the Police Chief for further discussion. All in favor.

LICENSE. All Alcoholic Beverage. Rosalie's Restaurant. Letter read frorm Ropes & Gray as it relates to the sale of the assets of Rosalie's of Marblehead, Inc. to Terrence Magrath. Motion made and seconded to write to the ABCC to request the license of Harbortown Cafe be returned to the Town's inventory. All in favor.

PERMISSION. Spirit of '76. Letter received from Donald A. McCarthy, Chairman of the 79th National Reunion of the 29th Division Association requesting permission to use the Spirit of '76 on the program front cover of their Reunion and Convention being held in late August in Danvers. This is the division that landed on Omaha Beach, Normandy, France on June 6, 1944. Motion made and seconded to approve this request. All in favor.

LICENSE. One-day All Alcoholic Beverage. Motion made and seconded to approve the request of Ira Dinkes, Dinner Dance Chairperson, Temple Sinai, to have a one-day all alcoholic beverage license from 8:00 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. on June 7, 1997 for their "New Year's in June" Dinner Dance subject to the usual $15 fee. All in favor.

PERMISSION. Abbot Eall. Motion made and seconded to approve the request of Susanne T. Gessner, Director, Marblehead Historical Society, to use Abbot Hall Auditorium on Saturday, May 17 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and Wednesday, May 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. subject to the payment of custodian fees if necessary. All in favor.

Motion made and seconded to authorize the Chairman to sign the Local Official Bond covering, the Town Clerk, Betty J. Brown. All in favor.

Motion made and seconded to support Town Counsel's recommendations on two applications for Town Trust Funds. All in favor.

Motion made and seconded to adjourn at 7:21 p.m.
